For Yorkshire

Nanofactory builds partnerships between companies and academic researchers, accelerating innovation and creating commercial opportunities in micro- and nanotechnologies. We represent hundreds of research groups at Yorkshire’s universities and connect world-leading scientific expertise with the region’s dynamic, technology-based Small and Medium-sized Enterprise community.

Nanofactory is a collaborative project between six of the Regions’ research-intensive universities.  The current Nanofactory project (MNT2) is supported financially by the European Union.  The project has attracted £2,511,835 investment from the European Regional Development Fund as part of Europe’s support for the region’s economic development through the Yorkshire and Humber ERDF Programme, the rest of the £4.6m budget contributed by the six partner universities: Bradford, Huddersfield, Leeds, Sheffield, Sheffield Hallam and York.

The project's primary objective is to stimulate regional economic growth through technological innovation, by nucleating and/or supporting Yorkshire-based clusters in a range of nanotechnology-related technical, suppliers and market sectors. This clustering is (i) to open opportunities for our knowledge base to form alliances with our SME sector and attract national and supranational research funding to the region and (ii) to connect our SME sector with commercialisation-ready inventions developed in our universities.

Our outputs will include the creation and safeguarding of over 100 jobs, increases in the economic performance of our partner companies measured by "Gross Value Added" and the creation of several new companies to take nanotechnology innovations to market and create widespread societal benefit.

One of our services to the wider community is to help publicise related events for the benefit of our academics and companies. If you are planning an event of potential interest to the region's nanotechnology communities, we're happy to help promote it for you. Simply "submit an event" via the link and we'll include it in our list of forthcoming meetings (subject to approval).
