Coatings and Inks

Nanofactory represents world-leading academic expertise in the field of coatings and inks technologies, with the Sheffield teams at both University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) at the pioneering forefront of this work. Our Leeds lab has expertise in colour science, printing and runs an MSc course in Polymers and Surface Coatings Science and Technology.

Our Sheffield team at the Nanotechnology Centre for Physical Vapour Deposition Research, part of SHU’s Materials and Engineering Research Institute, has a strong track record of developing high performance functional coatings for applications in several industries, including aerospace, automotive, medical, food processing, petrochemical, and textiles. For example, anti-corrosion and anti-fouling coatings for larger scale-lower cost applications have been developed by a team lead by Prof. Bob Akid.

Supported by unique world-class equipment, the Nanofactory partners collaborate with many European, USA and Asian companies, as well as leading research organisations including the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the Fraunhofer Institutes in Germany.
